Definition:
(1) The total number of people or organizations available from which to select a sample. (2) In the advertising context, the maximum potential audience for a radio or television COMMERCIAL, often subdivided demographically in practice. Hence, a radio station would have a fixed universe of, say, a million households but might also offer advertisers a 'housewife universe' of a different size.
