technology transfer

Definition:
This involves the transfer of a capability to use, adapt, modify or innovate with respect to a product, process, piece of equipment or field of technology. Technology transfer is sometimes seen as a special case of innovation, since in a technology transfer exchange the source, production and application of technology occur in different organizations, whereas in innovation, source, production and application are all under the same managerial control.
