sampling frame

Definition:
The definition of a population from which a sample is to be drawn, e.g. the REGISTER OF ELECTORS, today's output, all residents of the Strathclyde region etc. A sampling frame needs to be accurate, adequate, complete, up-to-date and relevant to the purposes of the survey for which it is to be used.
