Sale of Goods Act (1893)

Definition:
UK act amended by the Supply of Goods (Implied Terms) Act 1973, the act protects the buyers' rights to goods of 'merchantable' quality. A buyer can no longer be induced to give up his rights by signing a warranty card. The remedy now available is to reject goods and have the price returned, with a possible claim for compensation if any subsequent loss or damage resulted from the fault.
