heuristic programming

Definition:
A simulation method which seeks to understand the process of solving problems, especially the mental operations typically useful in this process. In essence, this term is used to describe the efforts involved in developing and computerizing the 'rules of thumb' an individual relies upon to solve complex, ill-structured problems.
