Guide to Official Statistics

Definition:
A comprehensive reference tool for anyone who uses official statistics. It provides help for all users of statistics with brief descriptions of data and their availability, It is compiled by the Office of National Statistics and comprises 16 chapters. Chapter 1 provides and overview of the government statistical service, sources available, details of classification systems etc. The remaining 15 chapters consist of two sections each. The first presents the main data sets and series available within the subject area while the second lists sources in alphabetical order. The subject areas are: Population ; Education ; Labour Market; Health and Social Care; Income; Living Standards; Crime and Justice; Housing; Environment; Transport; Social Statistics; The Economy; Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Forestry; Production and Manufacturing; Distribution and Other Services; Public Services.
