Definition:
Of all the promotions this method offers the greatest chance of getting a consumer actually to try the product. At the same time it is the most expensive, and its usage is invariably restricted to brands with potential annual sales of several million pounds. (On a door-to-door basis the cost could well be in the region of £100 per 1,000 households!) A number of companies seek to reduce sampling cost by cooperating in a joint promotion of non-competing products on similar lines to the gift pack given to mothers of first babies.
