fad

Definition:
A fad product is one which has a special appeal to a particular MARKET SEGMENT and appears to diffuse almost instantaneously following its introduction. However, fads or crazes' are notoriously short lived and likely to be dropped as quickly as they were taken up in favour of something new, e.g. hula hoops, platform shoes, flared trousers, Sinclair C5's.
