environmentalism
Definition:
A concern for the preservation of the natural environment popularly referred to as the Green movement. During 1988 the movement began to gather considerable momentum following gains in the European elections and the public recognition of the damage caused by acid rain, the greenhouse effect, etc. In the post-industrial society it is anticipated that growing affluence and a concern for the quality of life will lend even greater importance to the phenomenon.
