decision support system (DSS)
Definition:
More advanced than a standard information system, a DSS consists of a set of functional modules which allow the user considerable flexibility in the selection of data, analyses and presentation format. G. Anthony Gorry and Michael S. Scott-Morton ('A Framework for Management Information Systems', in Sloan Management Review, Fall 1971, pp. 55-70) characterized such systems as 'supportive, functional in problem areas that are not well structured, and interactive'.
