commercial
Definition:
The correct term for an individual television, radio or cinema advertisement. It is presumably a contraction of 'commercial message'. The time slots made available by the television and radio MEDIA OWNERS are in multiples of 10 seconds, normally up to one minute. The most common length of a television commercial is 40 seconds, and of a radio commercial 30 seconds. In the case of cinema, the basic units are the same, cinema advertisers in practice often adapting their television commercials for the purpose. Typical cinema commercials tend to be either 30 or 60 seconds in length, but longer durations are not uncommon. Individual commercials occupy SPOTS, which are combined into COMMERCIAL BREAKS.
