census
Definition:
An examination of the entire POPULATION of a country or a MARKET. Unless the total population is quite small (e.g. in some specialized MARKET RESEARCH) this approach is rarely used in commercial research. Most censuses are directed by governments (e.g. the UK government undertake a national census every ten years) and are designed to provide vital information on trends in population, trade and industry.
