Definition:
Colloquially, to seek or solicit views on a subject. In MARKETING RESEARCH it is used with two different and distinct meanings: (a) to conduct a CENSUS of a defined POPULATION; (b) to identify respondents possessing a particular characteristic from a larger population and so FILTER them out.
