billboard
Definition:
The generic term in America for an advertising POSTER, technically defining the 'board' on which a 'bill' is posted. Popular use of this description in Britain is probably absorbed from American literature, television and (another transatlantic borrowing) movies. Whereas a British 'billboard' is technically constructed specifically for a 30-inch by 20-inch 'double crown' poster, colloquial usage implies a much larger size: see POSTER SITE.
